Where do deer go in snow storms?

Indiana had about 2 feet of snow a couple of weeks ago. We don't have caves, so where do deer go for shelter?Where do deer go in snow storms?

I would imagine that they go anywhere they can. Under a cliff, downwind behind a boulder, an old shed or barn or shack, into the thickest part of the woods, under a bush, any snug little corner that they can find.

under trees in bushes any where they can get out of harms way , don't worry they will be alright , here in Canada they always survive and do well in big storms and after the storms , we get some good storms in the winter , and they do OK , good question, 2 feet an't much lol, try 5 , 6, 8 or more feet and thats one night or day
White tail deer do two things in winter. They change color and they pen up together. White tail deer are brown and in winter they become grey like the color of bark on sugar maples. Less leaves makes grey a good color. Most deer hide out in the forest. Many are more active in evening getting food. Most female deer and a few males depending on age pen up together in groups.





A dominant male will be able to mate with several females when they group this way. The males have antlers which are made of bone and grow all summer with a coat of velvet. They scrape them on tree limbs to remove the skin. Then they fight some when they group up.





In Ohio they stay in many of the forests they normally live in in urban environments depending on snowfall they may visit open areas like golf courses where they can get grass year round or even people's back yards for food people leave out. They mainly are skittish but in the Cleveland area some are like dogs and repeatedly show up in the feeder areas in back yards like birds and squirrels.





They do not hibernate like bears but stay active year round. Females become pregnant in winter. This is why hunting season is in the fall and early winter because the antlers fall off and you should know the sex before you take them. There are different rules for different sexes
Deer huddle in the woods as much out of the wind as possible. They do not go into caves. If you go into a woods you will find places where the wind is blocked by the trees. They simply wait out the storm and then go back to their regular routine.
To the deer lodge where they meet other deers and get really drunk in which they stumble out into the middle of the road where they end up getting hit by a car.
I tend to see them in the middle of the road. Especially during the last few snow storms.
