How high does a fence have to be to keep deer out of a garden?

I had a fence 8ft tall and wired with livestock fencing around my garden plot and it did the trick year in and year out. Never had one lettuce leaf nibbled on by a deer or any other four legged critter for that matter...

...Billy RayHow high does a fence have to be to keep deer out of a garden?
At least 15 ft. Deer can jump quite high. I bet they are enjoying eating your garden....

http://www.invisible-deer-fence.com/info鈥?/a>How high does a fence have to be to keep deer out of a garden?
8 ft is sufficient. Game fencing sold retail usually measures about 7-1/2 ft tall.
10 feet is the minimum but 13 will absolutely lock them out.
if u can get over it they can get over it 2 times easier
I was going to say more than 12.......so 13 sounds good.

Which type of corn do you put out to feed deer?

I saw some 50 pound bags of deer corn and seen other cheaper corn are they the same stuff?

i know u cant hunt them with baiting, in tennessee, u can attract them and have the corn go by like 2 weeks before season!

I also plan to put out a food plot, which seed do you all use for more succesfull big bucks?

does the deer cane work?

thanks.Which type of corn do you put out to feed deer?
Try and find some ';Acorn Rage';. It works so much better than the deer cane. It is just a powder that you spread either on the corn or pour it on a stump. Either way the deer will find it.

As far as the food plot goes try Clover, Soybean, Rye Grass.

Mossy Oak puts out some great product called Biologic. Biologic Full Draw. This mix included Brassicas, Clover and Wheat.

You can also get some Biologic Clover Plus. This mix includes white and red clover and chicory. The deer in our area absolutely love it.Which type of corn do you put out to feed deer?
any corn , it is all the same. As far as the feeder use clover. Never used the deer cane.
My brother in WI hunts with corn and he told me that last year he must've got a bad batch of it or something; the deer wouldn't touch it. He went to a different place with different corn, and they gobbled it right up, even when he put the new corn in a pile next to the 'bad corn'.
They are both probably the same corn. When you see corn that is cheaper than the other bags of corn, it is often because it has not been cleaned as well and will have bits of corn cob in it. This is just fine if you are throwing the corn out by hand but if you are using a feeder, the pieces of corncob will often clog up the mechanism and stop it from throwing corn. So, if you are throwing it out by hand, go for the cheaper stuff but if you are putting it in a feeder, you will have to buy the more expensive and cleaner corn. Just because a bag of corn says ';deer corn'; do not assume that it is clean and will work in your feeder, talk to the person at the feed store and see if it is clean or if the folks who bagged it thought it was too full of cob and debris and unfit for domestic stock and are selling it as deer corn. I've seen some pretty crappy stuff being sold as deer corn that I would have never put in my feeder.

For a feed plot, many sporting goods stores will sell a propriatary mixture of seeds for feed plots. I think most are pretty good but you can probably do as well at less expense by planting something like corn, clover, alfalfa or soy beans. Deer love them all when they are little and tender. Be sure a feed plot is okay before putting it out.

Another sure fire deer attractor is to bury a block of salt in a hole that is about 6 inches deeper than the block of salt. Cover it with soil and mix a few handsfull of ice cream salt into the covering soil. Somehow they will find it and will go crazy over it. They will paw up the earth around the salt block in getting to the salt and can often dig a hole that you wouldn't want to step into in the dark. So be careful where you bury your salt so you don't step in the hole on your way to the stand in the early morning dark. Another way to use a salt block is to put it in a mesh onion sack and hang it from a limb in a nearby tree. Be sure to hang it where it hangs out away from the trunk of the tree and high enough that they can't stand on their hind legs and hit the sack with their antlers. They will try to do this to get more salt and can tear down your salt block. One down side to this method is that it will attract raccoons and other climbers and they could chew through the sack string and let your salt block fall to the ground. If they do, it is not the end of the world, the deer will still come to it but it is just not as effective laying on top of the ground as when it is either suspended or buried.

I have never used deer cane so I am of no help to you there.
Any dried corn will work, and some old timers even use dried corn on the cob. You get less usable food in a 50 lbs bag of cob corn than loose corn.

Take care to scatter the corn, and not make piles. I have seen the piles get moist and cause the corn on the bottom to sour thereby ruining the pile.

I would use a winter mix for a food plot rather than just one specific type of plant, such as a clover/rye/winter pea/wheat mix. Most sporting goods stores will have them in stock now.

The advantage of using a mix is that you get several different plants for the deer to choose from ,in case they are picky that day, or one of the crops fails due to climate issues.
I haven't had a lot of success with the Deer Caine, but if you're allowed to make mineral licks I've found that Buck Jam, apple scented, has the deer digging holes 6 inches deep where it soaks into the dirt.
Corn is Corn...as far as food plots go, plant you some turnips...clover...etc. The deal with corn is this...as with any food source you offer a deer, if natural food sources are plentiful such as acorns...your corn will just grow mold.

BTW, we usually go to the local co-op and by mineral/salt blocks and put out, they will tear those things up...

Is it ok for my dog to chew on this deer antler i found in my yar?

its a smallish 'y' shaped deer antler that i found a couple years ago and i had kept in this drawer that i recently cleaned out my dog go ahold of it and loves it ....is it alright if she chews on it or is it to hard or dangrous? Is it ok for my dog to chew on this deer antler i found in my yar?
If your dog is chewing on the antler it is alright as long as it is not breaking off into pieces. The splinters from the antler can be dangerous for dogs.

In fact there are places that sell antlers as dog chews.

One place is www.petexpertise.comIs it ok for my dog to chew on this deer antler i found in my yar?
I wouldn't let my dogs chew on it, the only thing they are allowed is a raw marrow bone large enough that it can't get down their throats 1x a week, keeps them busy, outside though they can get messy let then have 1 for an hr then I take them wrap them %26amp; put them in the fridge till next day, great for the tarter and the marrow give a beautiful coat
if it is a few years old, it may be dried out and could splinter. if the dog swollowed some of those splinters, they could hurt his throat. go to the local butcher shop and get him a meaty bone to chew on, they usually sell them cheap.
I would say for you not to let your dog play with it. It may have deer diseases and maybe even infected diseases. So to my opinion stick with doggie chew toys..
You shouldn't let her chew on it. It is too hard and it could have bacteria. Your best bet is to stick to doggy toys.
It's not dangerous that she was chewing on it. But you need to take it away from her. It's a little too hard.
i agree it probably has a lot of germs and you dont want your dog to get sick

  • Yesterday i found a deer tick on my 4 month old puppy?

and i cut if off him with his grooming clippers cuz it wasnt coming off with tweezers..The head is still in there and i dont know how to get it out?Does anyone else know a way that wont be too painful to him and that will work.Yesterday i found a deer tick on my 4 month old puppy?
You might want to take him to the vet and get it removed it shouldnt cost much....Other wise he could get very very sick if its in to long and it will grow its body back taking more blood from you dog.....

I hope you get it out good luck !!!Yesterday i found a deer tick on my 4 month old puppy?
If you find you can't get the tick out with tweezers, the best way...bar none...to remove ticks is with a big dab of good ole Vaseline. That's right...totally smother the tick with Vaseline and basically it suffocates, backing itself out in the meantime. Its easy, painless and good for the dogs skin. If I don't recognize the type of tick as being a deer tick (black legged ticks are the main carriers of lime disease in our area of Canada) then I run it over to the vet just to make sure there won't be any problems. During our tick season, we do ';tick checks'; nightly on ourselves and our pets. A tick must be attached for at least 24 hours for the bacteria that causes lime disease to be transferred from the tick.

    Hope this helps!
The tick will not grow its body back but I would take it to the vet any way if it was a deer tick. He can remove the head and check for limes disease. You do not want to take a chance on your dog getting that. There is some kind of shot your vet can give him so he won't get sick. Hope this helps.
First of all, next time this happens, trim the fur from around the tick. Then apply clear nail polish to the tick. This will force the tick to come out for air. Then remove it.

Second... now you have to go to the vet to get that head and legs removed. The parts can end up in your pet's blood stream. Don't wait. Do it ASAP.
Generally, if you can't get the tick off in one whole piece, you should take him to the vet and they will be able to.

I hit a deer but my airbag did not deploy?

I was driving down 340E and from out of nowhere a deer runs in front of my car. I didn't see it to stop and it damaged the entire front end of my car. My front is almost gone and the hood was pushed up and back. However, my airbag did not deploy. Can this be a lawsuit against the manufacturers for a faulty airbag?I hit a deer but my airbag did not deploy?
lol... no ! They are not designed to deploy in every accident,. nor would you want them to.I hit a deer but my airbag did not deploy?
    No.

People like you make me ill -- you walk away from a major collision and the first thing you do is look for someone, ANYONE to sue. Airbags (SRS) are designed to deploy only when a certain criteria of events are met. Just because YOURS didn't blow does not mean they are faulty.

I suggest you hire an expensive lawyer and give him a $10,000 retainer and head to court. The auto manufacturer will show up with five lawyers, ten engineers and two hundred witnesses. This is tried all the time and has ALWAYS failed.
There probably wasn't enough impact to deploy the air bag. I'm glad air bags don't pop out for every accident. They only pop out for a serious accident when the force of impact is enough to cause your head to hit the steeling wheel or windshield. If your car ran off of the road, the air bag would have pop out. But since you were stopped after you hit the deer, there was no reason for it to.
No, you can't. The cars on board computer decided that the impact was not hard enough to deploy the airbag(s), despite what you might think. By hitting a dear, you did not come to an instant stop, like you would if you hit another car/object, so there would not have been any need for the airbag.

It's a common misconception that airbags will go off in all accidents, as it's just not true.
I highly doubt it, Airbags are made for collisions with cars, not deer. If the deer had hit the car with enough force the airbag might have deployed, but from what you have explained the dammage almost entirely body damage not damage to the chassie or framework. Also if you aren't injured it would be almost pointless to file a lawsuit.
No, but you should have it checked out anyway. A deer can cause a lot of damage, but usually the airbag will only deploy if the impact is with a rigid object. If you were wearing a seat belt or not also matters.

Further, you can not file a lawsuit unless you were damaged in some way. Were you?
The airbag is designed to prevent you from becoming serously injured in a head on collision. If you were not seriously injured then I don't see how you can say the airbag is defective. Your collision was not serious enough to cause injury so there was no need for the airbag to deploy.
And the airbag would have done what? Airbags deploy only in specific types of collisions. No, you can't sue the manufacturer.
The insurance will wriggle out of it by stating it was the wrong kind of deer.
i hope you know when you killed that dear you put point on your lic i think its 3 for killing a animal

My mother was trying to avoid collision with a deer and hit a few trees. Damage is over $5000?

Is deer avoidance is covered under collision or comprehensive? We have Erie insurance, and they indicating that my policy will go up by 30%. Any info will be helpfull. My mother was trying to avoid collision with a deer and hit a few trees. Damage is over $5000?
Collision. You have to actually HIT the deer in order for it to be comp. I tell people, ';don't swerve to avoid an animal'; (except a moose - collision with a moose can kill you). I tell them that ALL THE TIME. You need deer hair on the car, at the point of impact, for it to be covered under comp.

I do love Erie. When I lived in their territory, both my house and car insurance was with them. They have super low rates. That's why one claim HURTS so much.My mother was trying to avoid collision with a deer and hit a few trees. Damage is over $5000?

I've never seen ins. coverage for ';Deer Avoidance';, but I can almost assure you that a collision with the deer may have resulted in the same damage, or worse.

Since deer have long legs, they generally ';fly'; over the hood through the windshield. This can result in serious bodily injury.

I knew one case, the driver was paralyzed for life.

Insurance premiums would go up, even if she had hit the deer.

Sucks, but nothing we can do.

I've never had an ins. claim after near a million miles. Had an ins. co. cancel me once. I raised hell with the agent. He told me that they figured ';I was due';.
No. The deer is not responsible for its actions, but your mother is responsible for her actions. Sorry, it's unfortunate. Should have hit the deer, probably would have been less damage.
Okay, your mom had an accident, I do hope she is okay. As for your insurance company raising your rates. The question I have is ';Why?'; or better yet ';Under what conditions do they find the need?';. Is this the only claim against your insurance in the past couple of years? Have you or your mother had any traffic violations? Have you recently moved to a different area? Are you or your mother listed as a part-time driver on this particular car? Is your mother listed as a driver on this car? Lots of questions, get them to answer why they feel the need to raise rates.
It should be covered under collision. Why? Because she hit some trees, which are stationary items. If she hit the deer, I think it would have been under Comprehensive. Sorry, but you are going to have to deal with the higher rates. Otherwise, whenever anyone hit something stationary, they would claim that they were trying to avoid hitting an animal.
If you have collision coverage it will be covered, less your deductible. Do keep in mind that if the vehicle is worth less than the cost of repairs, they do have the right to give you only market value, again less your deductible, and 'buy' your vehicle from you by totaling it.

As to whether or not your insurance will increase as a result of the claim, there is no way of knowing until renewal time comes. If it does that might be a good time to search for a different company.
if she has full coverage on it or collision it will be covered, but just liability it wont be covered on,and it probably will go up for a while it usually does when something like this happens, good luck with it.

Explain how a deer has adapted to the biome: grassland?

10 points to the best answer.Explain how a deer has adapted to the biome: grassland?
    Three conspicuous sets of adaptations:

[1] Hypsodonty: high-crowned cheek teeth, allowing for extra wear associated with eating abrasive grass

[2] Ruminant habit: having four-chambered stomachs, regurgitating cud from the first two chambers, and gut microbes that help digest cellulose

[3] Antipredator traits: to reduce risk of predation by large mammals in these open environments, they travel in groups, can trot quickly when chased, and often have coats that change in colour with the seasons

Are ALL zoos cruel to animals? I just saw a story that the Toronto Zoo kills baby deer because they are male.?

I live in Washington DC and have heard similar horrible stories about our zoo, where bears, cats and birds are tortured ';in the name of science';. A friend told me that they take cats and stick electric probes in their butts to make them squirt semen when they get electrocuted. They justify that it is for ';endangered species';. Is this really justifiable? It seems wrong. Are ALL zoos cruel to animals? I just saw a story that the Toronto Zoo kills baby deer because they are male.?
well im not sure about your zoos over there but zoos here in england are pretty good!

My local zoo is Chester Zoo and it's great. i'm working there this summer and i think they treat the animals really well!

    it's basically all about conservation!

i find it abit hard to believe that a zoo would be allowed to do such things to animals when they are founded on the grounds of conserving endangerd species not harming them further!

fact is, if people wernt so selfish and cruel and didnt hunt animals in the first place we wouldnt have to have zoos would we!Are ALL zoos cruel to animals? I just saw a story that the Toronto Zoo kills baby deer because they are male.?
I would like to know what humans would think of a place where humans were caged , no freedom, at anothers bidding on just basic survival so animals could come by and have a look and say well that's not cruel its fine they look happy enough. Humans think they have all the rights . What if blondes were becoming an endangered species would it be ok to put a few in a zoo and breed of them , don't agree with zoos everything has the right to freedom.
I've worked in zoos as a reptile keeper and as a mammal keeper and I have never heard of any such thing. It could be very possible that larger zoos may be doing research to help to conserve species but I certainly know of no torture practices. They do have what they call SSP (species survival plan) programs where a zoo will decide to focus on a specific species. One of the zoos I was at had an SSP for the Aruba Island rattlesnake. We definitely didn't torture them. These sound like rumors, why not call your local zoo and ask the hard questions. I'm sure they would be very interested in correcting any misinformation.
    And your friend's the expert?

    He's seen this first hand?

And what cat (house cat to tiger) is going to let someone stick an electrode up it's butt and pull the trigger? I just don't see that happening.

Best to go volunteer with the zoo. You will learn so much about the realities of caging wildlife. It isn't pretty sometimes. The do the absolute best they can for the animals, and sometimes it's not enough. Sometimes people do the wrong thing not realizing there are alternatives.

Volunteer at a local animal shelter. Again, you'll see it's not as easy as it seems.

    EDIT TO ADD:

Some male deer are aggressive as adults. They will fight each other to the death. Is that humane?

Or they can kill them painlessly before it becomes an issue.

';Freedom'; is over-rated. In the wild, animals face starvation, predation and sickness.

Also, I would SIGN UP for the ';blonde breeding program'; another poster mentioned. All my bills paid, the best food money can buy, and all I have to do is pop out a few babies that I won't even have to raise? YES, PLEASE!!!
Zoos are an un natural situation for the animals, but most of the humans who take care of them try to be as humane and as responsible as they can be to them. We need zoos in order to see animals that most of us wouldn't see in ';real';life, and, unfortunately, the zoos are the only places you can find some of the animals at all, because they don't live in the wild anymore. There are volunteer programs at some zoos. If you are interested, try volunteering at a zoo so you can see how the animals are treated, and if you find incidents of abuse you can contact the SPCA
No not all zoo's are cruel to animals, though quite a few you often find are it can be very upsetting.
    most of them are
To answer your question - no, and in fact I would say most are definitely not ';cuel';, although that is a subjective assessment.

However - The story about the Toronto Zoo is real. Do a news search and you will find it. They have adopted a policy of euthanizing male reindeer as babies. The male reindeer are euthanized due to space, aggresion, etc etc. I don't know if it is best to live a sad life as a lonely male in captivity or be euthanized as a baby. Zoos in Europe do the same thing, although it is not publicized. Most zoos in the US and Canada do not do this and rather choose to contracept or not breed animals that they can not care for.

The procedure you describe is not quite like you present it. There is indeed a scientific procedure called ';electroejaculation';. It was developed for human paraplegics, where a stimulation is used for collecting a sample that is used for artificial or in vitro fertilization. It is used in animals too - cattle, dogs, cats, and yes- endangered species. (The animals are usually anesthetized first). Do some research and read about it and form your own opinion on the subject. It is a very complex issue. I don't know if your zoo actually uses that technique for endangered animals, but I have seen some articles on the topic and it seems like a widely used practice in most zoos that actually try to save endangered species. Most people use the technique when the artificial insemination is the only option to breed two animals (such as pairs that fight, or animals that are too far away and it is easier to inseminate with transported semen than move the whole animal).
Are All Zoos cruel to animals? Tough question. While I believe that no Zoo is intentionally cruel to their charges, cruelty is often open to interpretation. I know nothing of Washington's Zoo and any of those issues I have been closely following the Metro Toronto Zoo and have been writing every Reindeer Breeder and forum, as well as several associations of Men whose favourite colour happens to be RED!

Metro Toronto Zoo, while managing to place the two 4 year old adult males and Sundays newborn to the Bowmanville Zoo, has upheld its euthanasia policy. This was extended this year to include the reindeer but has been used in the past to dispose of Mara (Pantagonian Cavvy), Capybara and Muntjac Deer. In theory it is neither a cruel policy or without merit BUT in the case of the Reindeer it was not the most appropriate action to take and will harm the zoos reputation in the public eye at least.

The issue of Roadside Zoos in Ontario has been a hot subject now for a few years. In the case of Metro Toronto Zoo, they are a CAZA accredited facility and they are in the position of being held as the gold standard for levels of care and accomodation. This accreditation limits the manner in which they can dispose of surplus animals but to simply euthanize the over population is not the answer. While the surplus reindeer were said to have been listed on a publication available to other accredited zoos, the next zoo closest to them is the new home. I have seen no evidence of them making any contacts with breeders to arrange either a relocation or a swap to alter bloodlines in the herd which would have been advantageous to the Zoo. Last year, I purchased a Reindeer bull that was declared surplus from another accredited zoo in Manitoba. He is now my herd senior sire. This option was available to MTZ either through me or by contacting the Reindeer Owners and Breeders Association. We are not a secret society, as I believe CAZA to be, and many members carry more accreditation than the zoos.

On the subject of Artificial Insemination and Electroejaculation, I can't say that I know too much about it but I do know that the President of one of the Canadian based Reindeer Associations is on the leading edge of AI and teaches it to the European herders. The procedure is, as I understand it, similar to collection of a horse stallions semen. They are not probed electrically or otherwise. This process should also allow or lead to gender selection in offspring where males are not required/desired. Personally, I am happy with what I get. In the case of endangered species I have to side with the zoos if the only way to perpetuate the species is to sedate the animals and ';probe'; them to collect semen then it is justifiable until a more humane method is found. Some animals don't have the luxury of time.

For anyone who is against zoos please consider this: Animals on this planet are being erradicated systematically and completely. While the populating of Zoos in the last century may have been a contributing factor, they now must be in the lead on conservation. People by nature will be upset with a story and a picture but real action and interest requires interaction. I have witnessed this personally and believe this to be a truth. To do this the animals must be kept and some species only exsist today because they are in zoos. Repopulation in some cases is spearheaded by zoo based programs but this isn't an option for all animals. Herd management is necessary but killing off the animals isn't the most expeditious method to meet the goals.

I sawmention in this subject of people in cages. The Metro Toronto Zoo which opened while I was still in school opened on that premise that the visitor areas would be the primary cages and the animals would have a free run of their habitats. While that was a wonderful idea, people go to zoos to see the animals. This method rarely afforded the opportunity and a rethinking of the concept was required.

One closing thought, I attended a meeting last year of the WSPA talking about a proposed set of legislation to be brought into place in Ontario. One of the presenters made the comment that the public does not want these zoos and that the animals bred their are substandard leading to a glut of unwanted animals on the market. His solution was to close all these places and euthanize the animals. Great position for a Anti Cruelty agency. If the public does not want zoos, then stop going to them. As long as you pay the gate fee and they have the operating capital to stay open they will. Going there and paying the admission so you can complain about them only perpetuates a problem.

There are many more ways to kill an animal than simple cruelty. Neglect, Apathy, and all too often kindness are equally effective.

(I think they already have a Blonde Breeding Program, I think they refer to them as Chicken Ranches in the south!)
they should kill all the animals,, thsy suck.

  • What do you do after you score a buck? (shoot a deer)?

I'm getting into hunting, and am not really sure on what you do after you kill a buck. Do you field dress it? Or do you bring it back to your truck, or if not intending on eating it, do you leave it where it is and just take the antlers? I know these are probably dumb questions, I just haven't hunted before and am planning on getting into itWhat do you do after you score a buck? (shoot a deer)?
The very first thing you do is field dress the deer. Then you take it right home (don't put it on the hood of the truck and show it off to the school kids). Once you get it home, skin it, split it down the back bone (head to tail not side to side), and then (if you have a cool place like a basement) hang it for a day to drain the blood. The next day, cut and freeze it. You will not have the gamey favor that most people complain about with venison. What do you do after you score a buck? (shoot a deer)?
Feild dressing really depends on how far you are from your truck, if you think you can get it to the truck then take it home because it will make gutting the deer a lot easier because you should have more supplies at home, if you live in the city than you might think about dressing it in the woods. If you are not intending on eating it you still have to make a use of the meat, if you dont want the meat send it to a local food bank, it is illegal to just take the horns.
First thing you do is field dress it. Different styles of field dressing depending on whether you want a mounted full cape trophy. Some states have policies against lopping off the antlers. You have to tag the deer in order to make it a legal kill and that requires a license and an ID tag. Even if you aren't going to eat it, at least gut it and take it home and hang is out to dry it out and get it ready to be skinned so you can cape the buck to have it mounted.
I haven't bagged a deer yet but I hope to later on. The first thing I'd do would be to gut it then chop off the antlers. If I was on my own, I would leave the carcass where it fell. If I could get the 4x4 to it, I would take the meat home for dog meat if it was any good for dog food. I would take and tan the hide for leather. Deer here are feral and can be shot all year. Some States have some laws about them but I dont know what they are. I think the laws relate to cruelty and shooting deer with too small a caliber.

    Wedge
Whether you field dress it depends on how far it is to a better spot. But it needs to be dressed and butchered. If you don't want the meat, somebody else will, and you should NEVER leave a carcass to rot. BTW, scoring a deer is the wrong term. That's what you do when you measure the antlers for B%26amp;C or P%26amp;Y scores. There are people who like to keep up with these things. As a matter of fact, I've hunted places where you weren't allowed to shoot a buck with a B%26amp;C score of under 150, with a hefty fine for non-compliance, so that is not a trivial consideration.
Its not dumb if your new at it.

You field dress the deer, you can even butcher the deer out there if you wanted I guess. Then once you get back home, you finish skinning it and butchering it. Or you could take it to a deer processor.

Its illegal to harvest a game animal and take the hide or rack and leave the rest there.
You field dress it 'on site'. Tag it, and pack/drag it out.

You do not just leave it lying around.

Even if you don't intend to eat it, there are places you can donate the meat.
gut it on the spot. lighter to move, its the law, and it saves more meat. then either butcher it yourself or get it butchered. if you dont want it then sell the meat or give it away.
I making wontons soup with venison, and making chopstick from the antler to eat the wontons soup.
TAG IT! The FIRST thing you do is tag it.

Why are the suicide rate of US soldiers being compare to the US public? Should we compare deer hunters too?

Deer hunters have guns............ So, how many deer hunters committed suicide this year while hunting with a gun?Why are the suicide rate of US soldiers being compare to the US public? Should we compare deer hunters too?
I think most men want to help people, firemen who risk their lives to save people from burning buildings to policemen to lawyers from unjust imprisonment.

Then they are given a gun and told to kill people, we see it in the Vietnam soldiers who came home, most of them had tragic lives.

They killed old people, women, children, along with very young men.

This was not natural for humans God never intended for people to kill each other.

I hear every day ';well, more people are killed on the California freeways in Traffic accidents.'; Like that makes the killing of young men in Iraq okay. We have some people who are expendable, their lives are meaningless. Isn't that funny that most of them are poor?

You see very few rich people having their sons in the military.

Joe Biden is one of the few people who has done that. Why are the suicide rate of US soldiers being compare to the US public? Should we compare deer hunters too?
You do know suicide is killing yourself ON PURPOSE, RIGHT, not a hunting accident. In the military the big problem is the suicide rate is much higher than it has ever been in the military by a wide margin. I am a disabled vet, and my friends tell me the reasons are obvious. Any time you deploy for a long time, depression and stress are a problem, being in a combat situation makes both of those things worse, and then add the fact that these kids are deploying longer than our troops have ever had to deploy due to shortages and ridiculous policies, everyone says we have to help and support the military, but we do not do nearly enough, it is becoming a national disgrace. hopefully the dems can straightin it out.
The suicide rate is about the same as the national average. The reasons may be different. But the military has quite a few programs in place to prevent suicide. In fact it is mandatory training for every member and civilian. But the best laid plans don't always work if someone is set on killing themselves.
Deer hunting can hardly be compared to being a soldier in a war zone. Deer hunters very seldom see their friends killed. Deer hunters very seldom see innocent people accidentally killed as a consequence of something they've done.

Suicide rates are compared between soldiers and the US public for various reasons. One very good reason is to recognize if there is a higher rate of suicide among our troops and provide funding for psychiatric counseling for them.
Because soldiers are a part of the American public, sometimes under extreme stress and deserve quality care for their service - which should be measured to ensure that it is sufficient - that's why.

If anecdotal evidence showed that suicide rates were higher for deer hunters, then of course it should be investigated...but I suspect they are not.
Cameron-Ritchie, the Army psychiatrist, said suicide attempts are usually related to problems with intimate relationships, but they are also related to problems with work, finances and the law.

';The really tough area here is stigma. We know that soldiers don't want to go seek care. They're tough, they're strong, they don't want to go see a behavioral health-care provider,'; Cameron-Ritchie said.

    Multiple deployments and long deployments appear to exact a toll on relationships, thereby boosting the number of suicide attempts, she said.';

This may be a joking matter to you but our soldiers are under a great amount of stress and it is taking its toll. You also have to consider that the number of soldiers that are deployed and that are coming home do not get the proper medical treatment that they need. Military and VA facilities are overbooked and have long waiting lines. Post traumatic stress syndrome is very high and needs to be dealt with immediately.

I'm not sure why you are making light of such a serious situation but it is a little upsetting. My husband came back from Iraq and went through months and months of counseling before he was able to cope.
it is more useful to compare suicides in the US military to the suicide rates in previous years.

I don't think the problem is the guns, but is very long deployments, in a war that has gone on longer than WW2.
Because the soldiers were citizens prior to military service, that was their previous status.

What, you'd like to ascertain which of our soldiers were deer hunters? Go fer it.
It's not about the gun ownership. It's about the interminable 18 month tours and multiple deployments.
I hope you realize that an accidental death, such as a hunting accident, is not a suicide.
It's sad, and I think Bush should attend every soldiers funeral to! He was the one that put them on this senseless war.
well dear hunter generally dont kill men women and children so its not really a fair comparison
you should be ashamed of yourself
As long as we are not hunting with Dick Cheney we will be alright...

All kiddings aside, what type of question is this?
    i dont understand your logic.
    I don't get the question.

Does Jaigermeister really contain deer blood?

it's the legend. i don't see how they could do that really though.Does Jaigermeister really contain deer blood?
no there is no deer blood. and it actually translates to Master Hunter. The J盲germeister logo, which shows the head of a stag with a glowing cross between its antlers, is a reference to the stories of Saint Hubertus and Saint Eustace. While hunting they saw this great buck with a glowing cross between the antlers. This caused them to convert their ways becoming the saints as we know today.Does Jaigermeister really contain deer blood?
    It's their little secret.
nope, it was a myth. I believed and spread that rumor until I read somewhere that it was proven to be untrue.
    um,no.jaigermeister merely means ';deer hunter';
    nope

Yesterday i found a deer tick on my 4 month old puppy?

and i cut if off him with his grooming clippers cuz it wasnt coming off with tweezers..The head is still in there and i dont know how to get it out?Does anyone else know a way that wont be too painful to him and that will work.Yesterday i found a deer tick on my 4 month old puppy?

  • Are there any wild deer herds on the Hawaiian Islands, and if so, how did they get there?

Best answer will be awarded by asker. This question does have an absolute answer. Are there any wild deer herds on the Hawaiian Islands, and if so, how did they get there?
Axis deer from India were introduced to Maui (and eventually Lanai, Oahu and Molokai) in 1959 as a game species with relatively low reproductive potential. This was a wrong presumption. The original number of 9 has multiplied to at least 4,000, threatening farms and forestry. They are difficult to fence out.

Black-tail deer were brought to Kauai in 1961 from Oregon and they have caused problems since that time as well, eating many native plants and fruits. Are there any wild deer herds on the Hawaiian Islands, and if so, how did they get there?
There are no wild deer in Hawaii but there are FERAL axis deer populations.

Two stories exist for Axis being introduced to Hawaii. According to Graf (1950), the first Axis Deer were imported in 1868 to Moloka'i from India, a gift to King Kamehameha from the government of Hong Kong. According to Ables (1974) the Axis was first introduced to Maui in 1889. Populations have multiplied and spread and, today, there is the general feeling in Hawaii that the Axis is a pest and should be eradicated.
They must've been taken there by coloners! It's not like they'd actually swim!

When does ';The Rut'; actually start for Whitetail Deer?

I'm hunting in central Texas and we have been hearing different dates so I was wondering what SPECIFIC day it is? If there is a specific dayWhen does ';The Rut'; actually start for Whitetail Deer?
We hunt north of I20 near Eastland and they were not in Rut last week as far as we could tell. They will do stupid things. Chase doe in the middle of the day across open fields. Fight other bucks. Even on occasion, attack a man, although that's rare.

I think weather may factor in. But it varies by location, definitely.

I don't think it's a certain date at all. When does ';The Rut'; actually start for Whitetail Deer?
Although there is not a set date for the Whitetail Rut, it usually varies from early November to the end of February. This year, in Florida, it started for most deer last week. So it'll most likely happen sooner than later. The rut is the best time to catch big bucks out in the open chasing does, so good luck and kill a big one.
It depends somewhat on the year. It is around the same time each year. Last night I was watching a deer hunting show on television and they said the run was in January in west Texas. Watch deer every couple of days and look at their activity and you will be able to determine when the rut is in your area.
Bucks will go into rut when does start coming into estrus. Each year, it will be at different times- could be later, could be earlier. But.. it's not in December- does usually go into estrus around November. Some does come into estrus very early or really late also.
Sarah is right. Also it is swayed by when the weather gets cold and the rains start. In semi-desert West Texas, that can be January. Wetter places, it's already on.
i agree with jake, when does come into heat ,, more than likley in texas later in the year late nov thru jan, just watch for scrapes and take your grunt call at alltimes ok
    Begining of December

Its almost deer hunting season! Am I the only one who is excited?

I remember all the specials and party atmosphere. Now it just seems dead. Whats up?Its almost deer hunting season! Am I the only one who is excited?
It looks like folks over here get excited over going to the grocery store and hunting down their meat in little plastic packages!

    Yes, I'm excited.

We bought 65 acres 2 years ago and there are some NICE deer out there. I have trail camera pictures of a big 5x5 in velvet, looks to be about 5 years old.

There are several other nice buck out here, but I have my sights set on that big 5x5.Its almost deer hunting season! Am I the only one who is excited?
Trust me man you aren't.. There are plenty in Sportsman's Paradise where I live(Louisiana) who are excited about hunting season.. I cant wait for squirrel season here which is always the first Saturday in October that usually kicks off my season for the rest of the species i hunt.. Also, BE SURE TO TAKE A KID HUNTING IF YOU READ THIS!
Whats to be exiting about hunting and shooting deer or any other animal? How about we hunt and shoot you! That would be more fun.

I had an offer of 8 legs of venison for 拢60 - is that 2 deer?

sounds like alot of doe to me.I had an offer of 8 legs of venison for 拢60 - is that 2 deer?
Sounds like you are just getting the shoulders and haunches. You will not be receiving any tenderloin/ribs/neck meat. The cuts you would be receiving are good for roasts and stews but can be very stringy if not cooked properly.I had an offer of 8 legs of venison for 拢60 - is that 2 deer?
lol but no that's good as long as it has meat on. venison is expensive.
    Oh dear, oh dear.....
haha very good.... what do you call venison with no eyes?

    No Idea !!!!
that made me laugh outloud - nice one
WOW thats a STAGgerlingly good offer lol
    Haha...hilarious!!

    : )
    Not quite, just the legs
    Moose too much.
I just sold 8 legs of lamb for 拢10.00 but my mate said it was 2 sheep

Hunters, who would you like to invite to deer camp with you?

Of all the cooking show hosts on TV, who would you most liked to have in your deer camp?

I'd ask Giada DeLaurentiis, but I don't know how much hunting I'd get done if she showed up. (wink, wink)Hunters, who would you like to invite to deer camp with you?
theres no better cooking than papys. he comes to the camp every year and prepares meals in an old wood burning stove that will take him all day to cook and then there his morning cooking. oh my god id give up on my prime hunting spot just to get some of that cooking earleyHunters, who would you like to invite to deer camp with you?
Probably Rachel Ray. She would cook well but drive most of us crazy with her voice and therefore we would only come back to camp for food and sleep.

Because of this, we would be out in the field with more chance of bagging a deer, Elk or Moose. Like my logic?

Spin the whiskey bottle or strip poker might be fun with her too.

Guy Fietti would be my second choice. Would love to see him with a hunter orange hat on. Might have to cut the top out of it to let the spikey do come out the top. The hunting camp is certainly a Dive, so he might fit in very well.
If I could take ANY cooking show host......hmmm. Hands down it would be Justin Wilson the cajun cook and comic. Second choice would be George Foreman and his grillin' machine. Can you imagine the stories you'd hear in that deer camp.
I can't imagine ever wanting to take any cooking show host hunting. I'd take Martha Stewart, but I'd spend all the time in the tent dining at the Y.
Gorden Ramsey. I don't know how well he can cook up venison but if we make him push on some drives, I think he can scare any deer in our direction.
I would invite Rachael Rae (name may be spelled wrong) I never thought any one else ever thought along those lines.
    * Jim Zumbo, Ted Nugent.*...
Paula Dean.. cause after we shoot the deer.. we'll be makin some mean dinners with it lol
    I'd take Guy
paula dean that would be some damn good food

  • What's the brand of tequila with the deer's head on it?

It has great big antlers and I'm pretty sure it's from Mexico. What's the brand of tequila with the deer's head on it?
casadores tequila! it;s good, trust me i'm mexican!!What's the brand of tequila with the deer's head on it?
You've already asnwered it, so I won't bore anyone with repeating it (although I am at least the only answerer to spell it right).

I will add, however, that the label looks almost identical to the brand Cabrito which has a goat head in place of the deer head, and is otherwise almost identical.

The important thing is that Cazadores is 100% agave tequila, and Cabrito is not. It used to be 100%, but like many others when agave supply was limited about 5 years ago, it gave in to pressure and started putting in all the junk that non-100% tequilas use.

No matter what the brand, if you want a quality tequila, make sure it says 100% agave, as if it doesn't, then it's only 51% tequila, and the rest are fillers, grain alcohol, carmel color (which is sugar), etc. THAT'S what gives people a hangover, not the actual tequila.

Drink the good stuff and spread the word!
    Deera tequila

My advise don't buy it, it's to Deer
Jagermeister? It's not tequila and it's not Mexican, but it's got the great big antlers.
are you talking about yager or casadores tequila

It was over sixty thousand acres. I know the deer relocated, but I'm wondering if anyone here has had experience with this. It's really dry and there isn't much forage, I hope some stuck around close by. Some have said they may have went hundreds of miles. There has just been a big wildfire here. Is it legal to keep a pet deer in Ohio?

I know you need exotic pet permits and I am not looking to get a Buck.Is it legal to keep a pet deer in Ohio?
Well im from wisconsin, but ill try to help. I'm pretty sure you need a game farm license. But contact your local DNR (Department of Natural Rescources) and they will know the rules and regulations in your area. Many places dont allow animals in the wild to be kept in capitivity. But call and find out what they say. Atleast that answer will be accurate. Good luckIs it legal to keep a pet deer in Ohio?
well im not sure but how would you go about getting this pet deer because if you are thinking about getting a deer from the wild then forget about it that is definately illegal and really cruel to the deer.

  • When does the deer rifle season start in west virginia?

i looked on the dnr website and it dosnt really explain it and i was wondering when you can take a doe i wanna buck but really wanna doe so if some one could tell me that would be awesomeWhen does the deer rifle season start in west virginia?
WV Buck Only season (rifle season) starts on November 23, 2009 through to December 5, 2009. Antlerless season is very hard to spell out here due to the various counties or parts thereof that have a season.

In select counties, where they have unlimited doe permits, you can purchase your class N stamp, before season opens, and harvest a doe on private land only the first two days (November 23 and 24), then from November 25 to December 12 on private and public lands. A one week anterless only season runs from December 7 through to December 12, 2009 in select counties. In those counties with a over population of deer, you can take as many as four (4) does, but that is only in select counties. You can buy additional stamps during that time in those counties. The link below should help you understand it, the page lets you see which counties have unlimited doe permits available. Some counties were by lottery system only, for example Fayette County was a lottery system where you had to fill out an application mail it before the end of August and hope you got drawn. The DNR was only issuing 200 permits to residents only in Fayette County.

You can check out the regs at http://www.wvdnr.gov/hunting/Regs0910/De鈥?/a>

What can I hang mothballs in from my pine tree branches to keep away deer?

I'm sorry to say but mothballs won't keep the deer away. Most of those home remedies simply do not work. Fencing the deer out is the only way to stop deer. I know that wasn't your question so to answer your question I would use old nylon stockings. Good luck. What can I hang mothballs in from my pine tree branches to keep away deer?
onion sacks, those mesh sacks that hold produce, anything that air passes thru easily.

BTW, the deer become used to the smell quickly. You'll need many different strategies for deer. What can I hang mothballs in from my pine tree branches to keep away deer?
    pantyhose or mesh bags.
    Old Socks?

Should high deer fences be installed along some major American interstate highways?

Not just for the safety of the deer, but for the safety of people and automobiles.Should high deer fences be installed along some major American interstate highways?
No, the deer need to be able to cross the roads as we built them through the middle of their habitat. It would be like building a wall to keep you from going from your kitchen to the bathroom because of all of the traffic in-between.

We're just going to have to drive safely and do our best to avoid them.Should high deer fences be installed along some major American interstate highways?
i have yet to see a deer on an interstate highway, but what can it hurt?
That makes a lot of sense! Good idea!
not very effective, the deer are better at going around, over or through fences than Mexican migrant workers
Yeah maybe they should be installed because some people don't really pay attention to the road but that is only the bad drivers. But, luckily good drivers pay attention to the road so it is better to be safe then sorry if those high fences were installed because it seems like everyday in America deer are always walking on the highway.

How can i get a pig and a deer on my sims kingdom.?

I need to take a picture of those last 2 animals can someone help me. Also what time and day do they usually come. How can i get a pig and a deer on my sims kingdom.?
the deer like snow fields and (i think) normal fields and they like objects (as in flower object and stuff like that).

the pig...likes tree trunks and snow fields. at least that's what i put i mine

and they both come out in the evening

and you can also go to the zoo and look at the signs x]How can i get a pig and a deer on my sims kingdom.?
For the pig you need to make a tree stump with the extractor, place it down and sleep till evening. Then the pig should be by the tree stump.

For the deer, which was the hardest for me i placed down a heart object, a sci-fi object, and a flower object in the town and the next evening the deer was there.
The Pig comes around the evening i think, and u should place some of the things they like in the Gondola Summit.

The Deer likes objects (use question mark essence and any other one to create an object), so put them in the Gonola Summit too. They come around the evening as well.

I have a question for you: What essences can I use to make a stone pillar for the giraffe? I cant find any giraffe. Thanks!
Go to the Zoo and look at all the notices by the animal enclosures, read the ones for Pig and Deer and it will tell you where and when to find them. x
The deer likes objects so I made the heart object, the flower object, and the sci-fi object and placed them down in the town! The pig, i don't remember!
    Forever 鈾alinka鈾?

I found the giraffe by a tree. :p

And to answer the main question, just look on the signs by the animals to find out how to get them

well im 13 curently i have 4 rifles to choose from a remington 1903 with a williams peep sight 30.06 a remington 742 30.06 with both open and a burris scope and a winchester 30-30 and a marlin stanless steal 30-30 and about to be a remington 870 with a 34'' barrel extra full choke 00 buck shot

My choice in Firearms for hunting is a remington model 30 Express in 30-06 with a 3-12x40mm scope on it. The place I hunt now allowes shotguns with slugs or muzzle loaders only. I need to get a new shotgun for hunting.

    Mr. B
either my Winchester model 70 30-06 or my .50 cal Thompson Center Hawken blackpowder,
Remington 700 chambered for the .308 cartridge. However, I sometimes will use my Sharps .45-120 or my T/C .50 cal Hawken.

I either use my Remington Model 700 in 7mm Remington Magnum or my single shot Rossi in 7.62x39. If you buy the cheap Wolf ammunition (though corrosive and inconsistent) you can get a box of 20 in steel cases for around 10 dollars. I prefer the 7 mag, great gun and caliber.

  • Any ideas on a tat, is there such a thing as a feminine looking deer?

my dad passed away 3 yrs ago from cancer. anyway i have a small (about the size of the base of a soda can) tattoo on my left arm (right above my wrist). i wanna cover it up with something to represent my dad. the tat that is there now is really faded and isnt the greatest work. there is a personal story to a certain animal (a deer) that i associate with my dad.

i would like to get a deer tattoo~ is there any way to make a deer look feminine (dont want cartoonish)? another option if not the deer would be a butterfly, know of any good ones? would really prefer the deer if anyone has any ideas?

would a deer look weird on a female?Any ideas on a tat, is there such a thing as a feminine looking deer?
Eyelashes. And leaving the antlers off too.Any ideas on a tat, is there such a thing as a feminine looking deer?
I like the deer that you were givn a link to, but to make it more feminine, i would add a garland of flowers in the antlers, it can also symbolize your loss.
Check out the link below. I think that this deer is more feminine yet realistic looking as well. It is a very serene depiction of the animal.
You could have them add eyelashes to the deer's eyes, and maybe make the eyes more almond shaped, but tell them not too exaggerated becuase, like you said, it will look cartoon-y.
A female deer has no horns. To add more femininity, make the eyes bigger and add a few lashes.
There is a little fawn in a bunch of flowers that looks great. I see it in about every shop in the flash. Ive got it in the middle of my back around the buck doe and a whole wildlife scene.
sounds cool i say no antlers and softer looking fur... hey talk to a tat artist. they can really you help with this. maybe have the doe laying down witha baby near her or something like that. good luck withthe ink *smiles*
Bambi with a butterfly like in the Disney movie

    sorry for your loss...God bless

Don't know if that's what you're looking for or not. Best of luck, and I'm sorry about your dad. :[ I hope you end up getting a great tattoo!
I think getting a deer tattoo is a wonderfully unique idea. Butterflies are so common and because the deer would mean more to you, it's probably the better option. As far has getting a femine and realistic version, you might have a baby doe sitting on a log or drinking from a pond.
It's not too ';manly'; unless you think it is.

Young does can look very sleek and feminine.
I know you said that you didn't want one that looks cartoonish but I think if you used the deer from Bambi from a refrence it would look very feminine. It sounds like a really sweet idea for a tattoo and I don't think it would look too masculine
    A doe
To make it look right for a female body, it helps that the dear has feminine qualities, even if its a buck. where you are putting it and how big it will be is also a factor.

to make a deer tattoo look feminine, I would draw it with more flowing lines, of course i would go for a doe, but you can have a buck look feminine if you have it drawn right.

The softness of the shading and where the deer is looking will depict feminity as well.

I'll search for some photos of what i am talking about!

:) great idea by the way! I don't think its weird, but what matters is what you are comfortable with.

If you find a photo or picture you like you can take it in to your tattoo artist and ask them to draw one similar, or sometimes depending on the picture, they can transfer it straight from the picture.

heres one in a more artistic form, this one if you printed it out could be transferred onto your skin for the tattoo without any adjustments.

That would be more fun.

sounds like alot of doe to me.I had an offer of 8 legs of venison for 拢60 - is that 2 deer?
Sounds like you are just getting the shoulders and haunches. You will not be receiving any tenderloin/ribs/neck meat. The cuts you would be receiving are good for roasts and stews but can be very stringy if not cooked properly.I had an offer of 8 legs of venison for 拢60 - is that 2 deer?
lol but no that's good as long as it has meat on. venison is expensive.
    Oh dear, oh dear.....

    No Idea !!!!

WOW thats a STAGgerlingly good offer lol

    * Jim Zumbo, Ted Nugent.*...
Paula Dean.. cause after we shoot the deer.. we'll be makin some mean dinners with it lol
    I'd take Guy
paula dean that would be some damn good food

Did I do the right thing after I ran over a deer tonight?

I was driving home tonight with a friend, going normal speed and a baby deer ran out in front of me. There were not many cars on the highway so perhaps I could have swerved, but all I did was scream and brake as hard as I could-- but I still killed it. It thudded into the car and dragged for a bit, and when we finally stopped, it rolled a ways and then was not moving at all. The car was damaged a bit (I am paying for the damages to my friend's car) but I cannot get the experience out of my head and heart.

The deer was clearly dead and not obstructing traffic, so we just drove home. Did I do the right thing? Should I make any phone calls?Did I do the right thing after I ran over a deer tonight?
From a driving/safety perspective you did a splendid job holding the car's position on the road. Many driver's swerve and lose control/roll their vehicle when trying to avoid killing an animal, unfortunately ending up dead themselves.

Replaying the incident and being unable to get away from the frightening images is a typical response to a traumatic event. Do talk about what you saw, heard %26amp; are experiencing to people. Or check out ';critical incidence stress debriefing'; on the web. There are good sites that outline the process. If you find the images don't fade in a few weeks, consider a few appointments with a tauma counsellor.

Re: phone calls to be made. Don't know your country's legal requirements, Check with the spca for directions.

You did a fine job keeping yourself and your passenger safe. Well done!Did I do the right thing after I ran over a deer tonight?
no you should chick on that poor deer
You did the right thing. I love deer and animals in the wild but there are so many deer out there. They are becoming overpopulated. That's why so many of them get run over. You did all you could do at that particular moment. It's always easy for us to look back and say what we could have done but at the time our minds just don't always think of the best thing. You did fine. I hope you will be able to forget abou the experience soon.
There is nothing else you could have done. You sound level headed, I am sorry for your experience.
i think there was nothing left to do. it would have died instantly and not left in pain. I would have done the same
yes, you should, its clearly not your fault, so don't beat yourself up for it and its good that you tooe care of your damages to your friends car, i hope you checked the deer properly, cuz i have a feeling you we're too shocked to actually touch it, make calls to an animal association, don't just leave it on the road to rot, good luck
you could have phoned the forest department,if u were to be a honest person.otherwise its clear or others may seem to think that u ran from the scene to avoid some police business.
There is nothing else you could have done! You didnt run over it on purpose, and that was the fate, nothing could be done about it or to change what happened. So try to put it behind you.
Yeah, call whoever is in charge of the roads.

    The city or whatever.
I am disgusted that you wasted the meat. why didnt you bring the carcass home? the fawns are always more tender than the adults. such a shame..
you did the right thing... there are not too many people to call once the deer is dead...believe me. it happens all the time and there is nothing you could've done. except maybe stop quicker.

What to do with a deer carcass?

I want to convince my parents to let me hunt, and they say that if I actually use the carcass I can hunt. What do I do with the carcass, I have no idea? What to do with a deer carcass?
Take the hunter safety class. You will learn most of this from them.

BE SAFE!!! There are 4 shooting rules, know them and live them!

Don't go alone. For your first time find someone to help and teach you. Even after that most of the fun is going to the deer camp and being with friends of family.

Shoot it in the right spot. Gut shot or wounded animals are no fun to track or clean. And it's irresponsible to wound and animal and not harvest it cause you can't find it.

Shoot it near a truck. They are a lot heavier than you think if you can shoot it by the road it helps.

After it has been shot, field dress/gut and skin it. The meat will taste better if you can get it cooled faster. Gutting and skinning helps it cool. Get a Field dressing kit. They are 2 bucks at most sporting outlets. It has latex gloves and full length arm gloves and a few other handy things. It's nice to have on your first time cleaning.

Keep it clean! Dirt and leaves can ruin the taste of the meat.

Put either whole deer or deer cut into quarters into canvas field bags and get to a butcher within a day.

Cook for your parents so they will enjoy your sport too.

european mounts are easy and can be done at home with a cheap kit. It's a skin off bare skull with antlers on a plaque instead of the whole shoulders neck and head with the skin on.

The skin can be tanned and sold.

Best of luck. You are becoming a true conversationalist. By hunting you are contributing more than any other group. And you now have a real interest in the future of the animals since you enjoy them on a level no one else but a hunters does. What to do with a deer carcass?
Get the information on how to gut, field dress and process the meat for eating. It's available on several web sites.Get recipies for the deer meat and get your mom to cook some up for the family.

What your parents are trying to tell you is that they don't approve of killing something for the sake of killing it, and they want you to make use of the animal you kill so it wont be wasted.By processing the meat, you will be doing what they wish you do do. Good luck.
there are people who cut deer up for a small price if you want to eat it yourself,I myself have hunted for a long time and I cut my own deer up and prepare the meat the way I like it. if you don't eat the meat there are also organizations that you can donate the meat to, tell your parents to let you hunt its a great sport to get into and a lifetime of good times with family and friends,I myself would not miss it for the world.
First off all of the meat gets eaten. Venison is yummy. You can butcher the deer yourself, but unless you have a knowledgeable buddy who can guide you through it the first time I recommend sending the deer in to a butcher. You get a whole lot of meat for a relatively low price of some ammo and a trip to the butcher. Field dressing should be done by you in the field right after you find he deer though. This is not a job for the butcher (it's a time issue).

You can get the deer taxidermist, but that gets expensive (and doesn't fit in with my decor).

If you shoot a buck you can take the rack off yourself without the aid of a taxidermist and put it on a wall mount.

The hide makes a cute throw blanket.

The bones are good for making stock out of (do it the same way you make chicken stock).
I assume you don't have your license yet. When you take the class, they teach you how to field dress it. Anyone who's shot a deer before can teach you.

I never went deer hunting, but I'm pretty sure you eat the thighs. I know most people will save the head or the antlers. The stomach, intestines and the other gross stuff can be used as bait. Some people will just dump it in the woods- don't know if that's legal or not. Some people bag it and throw it out. I'd personally keep it as hog bait.
Ever see silence of the lambs? You can skin it and go out in the woods as a deer version of Buffalo Bill.

It rubs the lotion on it's skin....

But really, have it butchered and eat it. Good and good for you.
Well you can start by eating the meat. you can skin it for it's hide. mount the antlers and use the body for bait for crows, coyotes, foxes and bears!
Give it to a needy family or food bank.*
Make a fish aquarium out of it. Makes for a great conversation piece.
    yum yum

    eat it
    Get it stuffed.
    Exactly what Ben said
skin and eat......use scalding water to remove skin.

  • How to dress to go deer hunting?

When it's 32-50 degrees. possible rain showers. wind about 7 mph. staying in one spot all day long. How to dress to go deer hunting?
When I deer hunt I wear

FEET - footie socks, high ankle thick wool socks, waterproof boots

LEGS - boxers, long jons (thermal tights), gym shorts, sweatpants

BODY - sleeveless underarmor, coldwear underarmor, camo t shirt

NECK - I cut out the sleeves of an old camo t shirt, from the shoulder to bicep, slide over my head, can be used to keep neck warm or as a face cover.

HEAD - Camo underarmor skullcap (dont really need this), camo toboggan

CAMO - Heavy 1 piece camo snowsuit, or when its colder camo overalls and camo jacket (dont wear as much of the stuff above)

    IMPORTANT

Make sure you spray every layer of clothing down with scent killer or some kind of scent cover.

I like to be warm when I hunt. This keeps me very dry and warm, and when it gets really cold I like to take some hotthands hand warmers. How to dress to go deer hunting?
If your budget allows, check your local Army surplus for Gortex suits. sitting stationary you'll want to keep your feet warm, get some good wool socks and use foot powder to keep your feet from sweating.

as funny as it sounds, get a pair of tights and wear them under your clothes, don't forget to cut a ';convenience port'; for when nature calls.

A good wool beanie and something to keep the wind off your ears is a must.

A scarf may be a handy item and a good pair of water proof gloves with liners. Use the foot powder with them as well.

Take a few large plastic trash bags for water proofing, they make a good rain barrier when needed.
The clothing must be: warm, dry, quiet, light. Camouflage is crucial so make sure that you purchase clothing that suits the environment in which you will be conducting the deer hunts.

    What I recommend :

鈥?Gore-Tex hiking boots with good lugs and excellent arch support system.

    鈥?Hip boots or chest warders.

鈥?Hunter orange clothing, as required by the law.

    鈥?Wide-brimmed hat.

    鈥?Gloves and plenty of socks.

    鈥?Long underwear.
Hey I go deer hunting and I am usually dressed in all camouflage with an orange vest on. Since the deer are color blind the vest will not give away where you are. The vest is just for other hunters in the area so they know it is a human instead of a animal.
Go to walmart and go to the hunting section. They have camo one peice suits that are made for the cold and some are waterproof. And get a bright orange beanie.
You will need to wear hunters orange so that you are visible. Other than that you will need good shoes and water proof clothing and warms layers to help you keep warm.
don't wear brown. they sell a light plastic cover that is like a tent and keeps the warmth in . get one.
i who go the full jumper real tree outfit.
wear something brown and furry and one of those hats with the horns on em.
    layered with a parka
    in camo

How many babies do deer have at a time? And how do deer communicate with each other?

    REPRODUCTION

With good health and good nutrition, whitetailed deer are prolific breeders. Examination of over 600 does in Nebraska has shown about 60 percent breed as fawns (when they are about six months old) and virtually all of the older deer produce young. At least a portion of the buck fawns are capable of reproduction. Breeding commences in mid October and peaks in mid-to-late November for adults, and about one month later for fawns. A buck may mate with several does - up to 20 has been noted under pen conditions. Fawns are born after a gestation period of about 201 days, from early May through late September, with about 60 percent of the total born in June. Does bred when less than a year of age normally produce a single fawn, with 10 percent of them bearing twins. Older does average almost two fawns - 67 percent have twins, 21 percent have single fawns and 12 percent have triplets. This means that about 140 fawns are born for every 100 does in the population.

When one deer senses trouble, it quickly communicates alarm to other group members.

Once the deer is convinced the danger is real, it will flag while dashing for safety. The animal bolts away with tail upright, waving it back and forth and exposing the white underside and rump patch. Hair on the tail flares, making it appear larger than it really is. Deer flag less often in dense cover; where signals are not as easily seen by other deer; then in open country. Vocalizations are not as important as visual signals, but can still help predict behavior. Deer, especially does, sometimes snort when disturbed or alarmed. The short blasts of air made singly or in series are less common than flagging.

Injured deer sometimes bawl, or make an intense, high-pitched, prolonged call. Bawls warn other deer to flee. Deer living in groups may stomp their feet when alarmed to warn others. but foot-stamping can be heard for only a short distance. During the rut, bucks produce two primary sounds. The most commonly heard call is the tending grunt - a low gutteral grunt.

    Tail Wagging

Tail wagging is the casual side-to-side motion without hair erect, signals no danger. Similar to tail switching in horses and cattle, it is most commonly seen in warmer weather.

    Tail Flicking

Tail flicking is the sharp side-to-side motion with the tail horizontal or upright and hairs erect, signals mild alarm. Tail flicking means the deer has sensed something wrong, but doesn't know how to respond. It may stop feeding and raise its head, or lower its head as if to feed and then jerk up again. If the animal doesn't detect anything, it will probably relax and resume normal behavior. But if the disturbance continues, it will take a flight. A whitetail alerts others and quickly brings its group together by holding its tail horizontally or upright with hair erect, without waving it back or forth. This signal means the deer knows an intruder is close but doesn't know exactly where. Once the deer is convinced the danger is real, it will flag while dashing for safety. The animal bolts away with tail upright, waving it back and forth and exposing the white underside and rump patch. Deer living in groups may stamp their feet when alarms to warm others. But foot-stamping can be heard for only a short distance. How many babies do deer have at a time? And how do deer communicate with each other?
I don't know alot. I believe only one at a time. Two is extremely rare. The only thing I know about communication for sure is if one senses danger they flap their tails up and down to flash their white bums like a warning flag. How many babies do deer have at a time? And how do deer communicate with each other?
With proper nutrition and if their densities are not too high, most does will have 2 fawns at a time. However, this is not too common because in many parts of the US they are either overpopulated and/or in an area where they do not receive enough nutrition to have two.

Do you have a favorite gun you like to use during deer season?

If so, what is it?Do you have a favorite gun you like to use during deer season?

.22-250 would be a fun caliber to hunt with, A .50 caliber or 700 nitro express would be even funner, but I preffer to hunt with a .243 cause thats all you really need.

My favorite is an old Sharps in 45/70. By far not my most accurate nor easiest to carry around not to mention I only get 1 shot. Still I adore this rifle. Working the rolling block action, adjusting the tang sight for distance, dropping in it's 3 inch dowel shaped shell all send a sensation within me I can not explain. My best it will never be, my favorite it will always remain.
i like to use a muzzle loader. of course your not allowed to hunt with a rifle where i live. a shot gun can't stand up to the power and accuracy of a muzzle loader. my first deer ever taken just 2 years ago when i was just 13 was an 80 yard shot between two trees. it was so powerful that it dropped him right there and i didn't even have to track it.
i carry a remington 700 chambered in .280 rem i like it shoots good it is older so i was able to adjust my trigger down to about 3 pounds pull pretty nice but if you're looking to buy a riffle i would get a remington xr-100 rangemaster heavy barrel adjustable trigger all the extras but i like distance
