Should I buy a muzzle loader with a scope, or without and use the open sites for deer hunting?

I can buy a muzzle loader kit with a scope for $190 or without for $130. What do you think, because I know you shouldn't take very long shots anyway with a muzzle loader...

I already have a rifle with a scope...Should I buy a muzzle loader with a scope, or without and use the open sites for deer hunting?
I've always thought the idea of primitive weapons season was to reconnect with a time before scopes were used, so I wouldn't want to use one on the front-stuffer. And I hunt with the Hawken-style rifle rather than an in-line, for the same reason.Should I buy a muzzle loader with a scope, or without and use the open sites for deer hunting?
I agree with John De Witt. I will only hunt with a flintlock muzzle loader with buckhorn sights. The original idea of muzzle loading hunting was to give people a feel for how the original Eurpeon pioneers must have hunted 200 years ago.

I just don't see the point of having a so-called muzzle loader season if they are going to allow polymer stocks, saboted bullets, and telescopic sights.
You want a scope. now days a muzzle loader will reach out as far if not further then a shotgun with a slug and slug barrel. You can shoot a deer 150 to 200 yards. Without a scope you can't even see horns that far with the naked eye. For $130.00 you can buy a CVA which are junk, and if this is what you are buying then don't buy the scope because the accuracy of that cheap of a gun will be a shot distance and I wouldn't take a shot even 100 yards. Save your money and buy a TC Triumph with a muzzel louding scope for $500.00.
I personally feel that using a scope on/with a muzzle loader defeats the reason for hunting with a front stuffer: But that is me. If legal in your state the scope improves the sight plain and hitting the target. I have taken deer with a front stuffer with open sights out to 150 yards, a scope will only insure a hit and better placement of the bullet.
Check your state to see if you can hunt with a glass on top. That may determine your answer. I was going to blackpowder hunt in SD but couldn't because I didn't want to take the scope off my CVA. Otherwise I would say get the scope. I have an over under set up where the scope has rings that let me see the open sights for 50 yd shots and the scope is set up for the 100 yd shots.
It depends on your hunting environment. If hunting thick brush or woods you want open sights or you will never find your target in a scope. In wide open spaces a scope is good if you know your range and can compensate for the drop.
Some states do not allow the use of a scope during muzzleloader season. If it is legal I'd get a fixed 4x. Check the regs for wherever you will be hunting.
You want a scope if it's legal in your state on a muzzle loader. No matter how far the shot (modern black powder rifles are capable of 150-200 yard shots) you will most always be more accurate with the scope.
