Where can I buy a hunting rifle online?And is 30-30 a good deer rifle?

I want to buy a deer rifle for my husband for christmas, any ideas where? None of the local pawn shops have any.Where can I buy a hunting rifle online?And is 30-30 a good deer rifle?

There are a lot of gun sites (auctionarms.com, gunbroker.com, gunsamerica.com) but the purchase of a gun can be a pretty personal choice. Would you let your husband buy you shoes over the internet? I would recommend going to a real gun store like Dick's Sporting goods. Cabela's, or Bass Pro Shops, or a local shooting range that sells guns (not a pawn shop) and let him try several guns to see which one fits him. Instead of picking out the gun, why not buy him a gift certificate from one of the stores, and let him make his own choice? Trust me, he'll love the thought that you put into it, and if he picks out the gun, you don't have to worry if he doesn't like it.


By the way, a .30-30 is a great little deer gun. I shot my first deer with one at 13, and my most recent one at age 53. It has probably brought down more whitetail than any other caliber. But it does have its limitations. If your husband is planning to shoot long distances (over about 150 yards), he'll need a more powerful, flatter shooting rifle.


In addition to the rifle, I would recommend that you also look into getting him a gift certificate from a local range so he can practice. You can find a local range at www.wheretoshoot.org.

You could go to a sporting goods store and buy one. The suggestion to buy a gift certificate is a good one - let your husband pick out the rifle he wants. A .30-30 is a great deer cartridge, and a Marlin 336 in .30-30 would be a wonderful gift.

Bad idea, buying a gun is a personal expierience for a man, or women. Get him a gift certificate for a gun shop instead and go pick one out with him, a good rifle and scope will run anywhere from 800-1200$$$.

Also , 30-30 is ok but .270 or .30-06, 7mm-08 and .243 are all good deer rifle loads.
A 30-30 is a good gun. You can order a rifle on-line usually picked up in a store. I would first make sure you know the rules in your state. In Ill. you must use a muzzle loader, or shotgun for example. Happy shopping, feel him out for as much information as possible.

Im not to sure where you could buy a rifle online, but a good hunting rifle would be a 30-06, my whole family on my dads side are hunters and they all use 30-06. and if you go to some sporting good stores they should beable to help you out on buying one.

A .30-30 is excellent for heavy brush/woods where shots are typically shorter range and must often be taken quickly

listen to johny A . 7mm,.243, 280 are all better(flater shooting than a 30-30 or 30-06
