I am looking at buying a Remington 7600 in 308 for close up pig hunting and deer.?

While I will use the rifle mainly for hunting, I would also like to use the rifle at the local range for social competition, where I would like to be able to be competitive up to 500m. Will the 7600 do the job or should I be looking at a bolt action (i am a reasonable rifleman). Any suggestions or other recommendations?I am looking at buying a Remington 7600 in 308 for close up pig hunting and deer.?
While the 7600 is a great hunting rifle. The pump ation itself limits it as a good long range rifle. The pump allows one to flex the barrel ever so slightly and not even know it. This flex will affect the harmonics of the barrel and leads to a large grouping at extended range. Holding it tighter only makes it worse. Long range shooter use either a free floating barrel or a glass bedded barrel to over come this problem, neither of which will work on a pump action rifle.I am looking at buying a Remington 7600 in 308 for close up pig hunting and deer.?
I love this gun. The one before it the 760 was a excellent gun too.The ones I have seen are very accurate and dependable. Its a real tack driver with quick follow up shots. You can get extra mags or bigger mags for more fire power too....

I would get a 30-06 if I were you for lots of expanding and hunting bullet options and availability.
* Bolt action is the only way to get the best accuracy and performance.* Get a Remington Model 700 new or used.*
