How to get rid of deer mice?

So I made a bit of a discovery these past 3 days. I've found 2 mice in my house! This creeps me out so much, the poor little critters have ventured into territory where they are not wanted! What is the most effective way of getting rid of them (my gut tells me there's probably more)? I'd like it to be as human as possible so those options are preferred though please suggest what you (or someone you know) has used to rid of them.

Good evening, JD.

I use HaveaHeart live traps (see http://www.havahart.com/store/live-anima鈥?/a> ) baited with peanut butter. They're made of metal and a bit pricey and are not so easy to locate as a result. I know there are less expensive ones available in many home retailers but most are made of plastic (I had one mouse chew through the plastic to escape). If you use any live catch mouse trap just make sure to put the cage in a box and drive them to a park, meadow, or the like far away from your house. If you release them too close to your home they have a tendency of finding their way back.

Should you decide to eradicate the mice, please do not use a poison trap (the mouse will die by internal bleeding and may be eaten by another animal which will poison it also). Glue traps I also list as unacceptable since the animal suffers needlessly. Should you elect to set a kill trap the old fashion spring loaded trap baited with peanut butter usually is effective since the mouse dies quickly.

I still prefer using a live catch-and-release method. Also, try to find the point of entry (mice can fit through extremely narrow openings). Stuffing the opening with steel wool will discourage mice from entering your abode.

Hope this helps.

May all be at peace.

If you don't want to kill them buy live mouse traps.
