I have a 2,000 square acre hunting lease and my blind is right in the middle. would it effect the deer if i light a fire a night before a morning hunt on a far corner of the property? How far should a fire be from where you deer hunt?
I can remember when most deer hunters never used a stand, but posted on the ground. During cold weather they would build a fire to keep warm. The fire never prevented deer from coming close enough for a shot. Build a fire and don't worry about it. It may even help cover up your scent. Good luck! How far should a fire be from where you deer hunt?
I don't think that the smoke would affect the deer that much they would leave the area. 2,000 acres is allot of land. If you are still worried that this will affect the deer I would recommend looking at the wind direction so that the smoke blows off your property.
Acres are ';square';. You can't have ';square'; acres. You can have like 3 square miles, but that is only 1920 acres. As long as your fire is down wind, you should be good to go. If there are any houses in the area with fireplaces or wood stoves, don't worry about it.
I concur. Should make no difference. Deer don't mind smoke. Its people smells that get their attention if at all. I actually shot the most deer at once in my life after doing Hog chores (reeking to high heaven of pig excrement and smoke) from my deer stand.
fire is a natural occurence for a deer. i have been camping and hunting 100's of times only to wake up climb out of my tent and see a handful of deer exiting my camp site.
Shouldn't make any difference...I've shot deer and elk a hundred yards from camp, after a night of campfires...
That should not effect the deer. I shot one of my bigger bucks using a sunflower head on a propane tank in a straw bale blind.
Burn and fire. You're good to go.
No problem
