What is the best shotgun to use for deer hunting?

I'm not going to focus on a brand of shotguns --- the way the pumps and semi's are today they are practically all worth buying. It's a matter of budget, safety location preference, fit %26amp; finish requirements, and accessories (such as rifle chokes or rifle barrels --- which aren't really an issue anymore since they're easy to find for most guns. And they make a wide variety of slug guns that are ready right off the shelf)

You have to decide how far you're going to shoot --- that's the most important thing in your decision

If shots are 30-40 yards you could get away with a bead sight and a smooth bore. More likely you'll want to go with a different sighting system (rifle sights, or some type of scope).

As far as a rifle choke vs full rifled barrel --- if you plan on shooting past say 75 yards you probably want the full barrel (though a lot of people get 4-5'; groups with the chokes at 100 which is ussually more than acceptable provided that's as far as you're going to shoot).

Full barrels vary in price - 200 to 500 dollars depending on the shotgun. But with some of the new loads, you can shoot up to 200 yards with a shotgun (but at a cost of about 3 dollars a pop).

But with a scope and a mid-priced slug you should be able to hit a paper plate out to 150 yards with todays tech.

So I would advise you to consider how far you're going to shoot and what type of setup you want to have.

Then go and do some research and figure out what guns are available for your needs. I have a feeling you'll still have a bunch of choices. So then you'll have to revert back to my first paragraph. What is the best shotgun to use for deer hunting?
I use either my Browning BPS 12 ga or my Remington 870 express 20 ga. I've taken tons of deer with bothWhat is the best shotgun to use for deer hunting?

I like the Remington 870 12 gauge pump with rifled barrel and rifle sights myself.

H
12 gauge with rifled barrell 640 grain slug
Best is what is best for the individual.
Here is one of the best http://www.savagearms.com/210f.htm
Theres alot of good shotguns out there,I use a Remington 870,tried and true,to me there isnt a tougher gun, maybe the Mossberg, thats something to consider, but for me its the 870 all the way
If you insist on using a shotgun use a 12 gauge semiautomatic.
Thats a matter of preferance -- Your going to get a lot of opinions here......... My favorite deer gun is a Mossberg 500 pump 24 inch rifled barrel, 12 gauge. Its served me well. ----- Others are going to fall all over themselves telling you about the Remington 870. Thats a fine shotgun too..... Best Deer Gun?? There are some shotguns that cost over $1000..... I dont have champaign tastes so my recommendations here are for the reliable, decently priced, well made, working mans kind of shotgun..... No matter what - please buy a shotgun Made In the USA! ~ Thanks! See the below Links --- Hope This Helps!
Remington 11-87 turkey gun. There are Remington fiber optic rifle sights which fit low on the vent rib. You can change the choke tube from ';Extra Full'; for turkeys and deer (with buckshot) to ';Rifled'; for sabot slugs. Or you can screw in an cylinder tube for a big Foster or Brenneke slug. Or take off the sights for use on upland game or skeet. You can change the barrel to a longer 28'; one for waterfowl, sporting clays, or trap.

You can even screw on an extended magazine (slight drilling required) and a short barrel, and use it for home defense.

Do it all with this gun. Just don't use a slug barrel, they're only useful for hard-recoiling slugs and buckshot.
Remington 870 or Browning BPS [in 12 ga.]
You don't use a shotgun for hunting deer. you use a high powered rifle. Like a weatherby mark v or a remington model 700.
A shotgun isn't the ideal weapon for deer hunting but if your on a tight budget it can be a multi-species weapon. You could take deer, foul, rabbits and other small game with a 12 guage. For deer hunting I advise slugs only as buckshot isn't legal in most areas and it isn't as effective.
